Day 3: Chimp Trekking – Canopy Walk in Nyungwe forest

Wake up early, have breakfast and head to the park headquarters. After being briefed on the rules and regulations for chimpanzee trekking and exercise in the forest, find your way into the forest with a ranger guide. If you love hiking, these are probably the activities you enjoy the most. Meeting the forest inhabitants who are closest to humans is one of the most beautiful moments you can experience in your life. Be sure to bring your camera to capture all of the monkey’s movements. The forest is home to many other animals such as monkeys and birds, some of which may be sighted.

Return to the lodge to freshen up before taking a walk through the treetops. This is more exciting than you might think, offering the best views of Nyungwe Forest’s dense canopy, diverse forest birds and adrenaline rush.

When you arrive at one of the few homes owned by the endangered mountain gorilla, you’ll be amazed. Strategically located at the top of the cone-shaped Virunga volcano, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the region’s cool climate. The park is also a natural habitat for beautiful golden monkeys and many forest birds. Check into the lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Each group of up to 8 people is assigned to a gorilla family and searches for gorillas with an experienced and knowledgeable ranger familiar with the trails of the rainforest.

A great encounter with a mountain gorilla is amazing. Spend this wonderful time watching giants, toddlers frolic, and how the adults care for the little ones. We spent an hour interacting with gorillas before heading back to headquarters and learned a lot about them.

As an optional activity, visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village for cultural entertainment, interaction and the chance to learn about local life. This can be done in the evening.

Beautiful sunrise views after dawn and plenty of wildlife including Maasai giraffes, buffalo, zebras, oribi, lone antelopes, elephants and hippos. The lion was reintroduced to the park after being exterminated by hunting and is one of the attractions you are lucky enough to see. Some primates can be seen in the park’s woodlands.
