6 Days Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Budongo Forest

Your driver-guide will pick you up at your place of residence and drive you to Budongo Forest, which is part of the conservation area of Murchison Falls National Park, in northern western Uganda. En route, you’ll stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track endangered white and black rhinos that are being restocked there.

Accommodation: Budongo Eco Lodge.

Meal Plan: (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Budongo Chimpanzee Trekking – Top of the Falls Visit

Start your day with breakfast, proceed to the forest headquarters for a briefing on the Dos and Don’ts of chimpanzee trekking, and then begin your monkey walk in the Budongo Forest under the guidance of knowledgeable ranger guides. You will see other primates, birds, and many plant species on your walk, and once you are in close proximity to a community or party of habituated chimpanzees, you will be given an hour to observe them and take pictures before returning to your lodge for lunch.

After lunch, your driver will take you to the top of the falls to see the water squeeze through a 7-meter-wide chasm before crashing downwards. Then, you’ll return to your lodging to unwind and get ready for the following day.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge or Murchison River Lodge

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

After starting your day with a cup of coffee, your driver guide and game ranger will pick you up for a morning game drive where you will have the chance to see several antelopes, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, buffaloes, and with any luck, big cats like leopards and lions. You will then return to the lodge for lunch.

You will take pleasure in the boat ride to the falls’ base in the afternoon. You may see several herds of buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, water bird species, and other wild creatures as they congregate along the River Nile to drink water on your trip from the jetty point to the base of the falls. Continue upstream to the falls’ base to see how the water squeezes through a tight valley. Return to the lodge.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge or Murchison River Lodge.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park.

You will start your lengthier trip to Kibale National Park in the morning after breakfast. Along the route, you’ll stop for lunch and maybe even spot some birds.

Accommodation: Papaya Safari Lodge or Chimpanzee Guest House

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After an early breakfast, go to the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre, where the tourist activities start, and then proceed to the Kibale Forest to search for chimpanzees. The likelihood of seeing chimpanzees is above 90%, but there is no guarantee. You could spend more than four hours searching for chimpanzees before returning to your lodging for lunch and then making the roughly three-hour trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will get the chance to go through tiny villages, take in a number of the Mountain Rwenzori’s foothills, view a number of the Rwenzori mountain ranges’ minor rivers, and cross the equator at Kikorongo.

Accommodation: Papaya Safari Lodge or Chimpanzee Guest House.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking at Kyambura Gorge – Return to Kampala

You will be taken to Kyambura Gorge after breakfast where you will meet up with fellow trekkers for a briefing before beginning your chimpanzee walk in the gorge. Your game ranger guide will assist you in recognising the many plants and animals that call this canyon home, and once you locate a group of chimps, you will be permitted to spend an hour photographing them. Drive briefly along the wildlife paths as you exit the park to start your return trip to Kampala after the chimpanzee trekking. Have lunch at the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara. Retract from that and travel on to Kampala, where you may rest up before going to the airport to catch your trip home.
